Johns Hopkins University to award Baltimore Artist Joyce J. Scott honorary Doctor of Humane Letters

When Johns Hopkins University holds its 146th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22, the University will award an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Baltimore artist Joyce J. Scott, a visual and performing artist well known for creating intricately designed beadwork, sculpture, and quilt-work to expose and address social issues. Her exemplary work and commitment to the arts and social issues serve as the foundation for her selection.

‘Parties in the Springtime’ focus of next ‘Chesapeake Farm and Bay to Table’

“Parties in the Springtime” is the theme of the May 11 episode of “Chesapeake Farm and Bay to Table,” a virtual series produced by Harford County Public Library and Chef John Shields’ Our Common Table, that highlights Maryland farms, fisheries and local businesses. The show, which wraps up the second season of the series, will be streamed on Zoom from 7 to 8 p.m.

During this program, viewers will learn the ins and outs of throwing a springtime bash. From planning to decorating and easy-to-serve menu ideas, it will be a one-stop class for all your party needs. Joining Chef John and HCPL CEO Mary Hastler will be Andrea Farnum, Chef John’s “Kitchen Goddess” from his public television program, “Coastal Cooking with John Shields.” Farnum will be flying in from the West Coast for the show.

Artist Joyce Scott to appear on ‘Chesapeake Farm & Bay to Table’

“A Love Story for All” is the theme of the Feb. 9 episode of “Chesapeake Farm & Bay to Table,” a virtual series produced by the Harford County Public Library and Chef John Shields’ Our Common Table.

Joyce J. Scott, a nationally renowned artist from Baltimore, will join Shields and library CEO Mary Hastler as they whip up some treats for the amorous in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Scott was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2016 and a Smithsonian Visionary Artist in 2019.
